Ride Tested: MAAP Training Jersey

The perfect jersey doesn’t exi…

Comfort is queen when logging long hours in the saddle.

As a former magazine editor covering endurance sports and a longtime cyclist, I’ve worn and ride-tested hundreds of different jerseys over the years. Rarely have I singled out just one to wear on repeat. And then MAAP made the Training Jersey.

MAAP is an Australian brand that’s grown a healthy following by cyclists who prioritize smart technical features but also want to rock some personal style on the bike. Their clothes answer all the essential needs (and then some) on the utility front, but also make this rider feel a little more put together and polished.

The biggest selling point of the new Training Jersey is how it feels—it’s the closest thing to silk I’ve felt in a jersey. It’s incredibly soft, lightweight and airy yet offers a hugged-in fit and SPF protection of 50+. I also appreciate the lower cut of the collar, so you don’t feel the zipper digging into the base of your neck like with some jerseys. And speaking of the zipper, it feels hefty, not flimsy or like it could easily fly open during a ride (it’s happened). And if you’re like me and prefer a longer sleeve (for sun protection and/or aero performance), this jersey fits the bill.

The eye for detail—both in terms of design and functionality—does not go unnoticed. From touches that just make me smile (the “Ride Your Brains Out” printed on the inside of the jersey) to smart technical features like the grippy waistband, soft internal seams and ample pockets, this jersey will change (read: elevate) your standards in ride apparel.

Pair this jersey (which comes in this pretty pale pink and 4 other colors) with the Training Bib Short for your go-to gravel kit.
